BACKGROUND: The tide of the war is changing. The Soviet
advance in NORTHAG was halted short of Bodo, Norway. Now,
NATO forces are working their way up the Norwegian coast
in a series of amphibious actions that will isolate large
Soviet units in the southern part of the country.

Although their major surface units are no longer safe in the
Arctic Ocean the Soviets are not beaten. They still have strong
air and submarine forces guarding the coast. Norway is still
the hostile shore.

BLUE ORDERS: You are the commander of a NATO ASW group with
two mixed nationality squadrons. Your mission is to sanitize
the Ullsfj and Lyngen fjords north of the ruins of Tromso, Norway.
In six hours a British Royal Marines amphibious brigade shall be
inserted into one of those fjords. You have reached your
destination late. With two hours to go your group is attacked by
at least two squadrons of Soviet frontal aviation.

Your orders are to clear the fjords of any Soviet submarines that may
be lurking there. You have two hours remaining to do this. If you
finish this task early, patrol the mouth of the fjord to prevent
further infiltration.

INTELLIGENCE: The threat of Soviet surface craft is low. The are
known to be Soviet submarines in the area. Soviet aviation units
are patrolling and defending the coast. Air attack is your largest
threat. Six F-16s have been assigned to fly CAP for you.

MINIMUM VICTORY: Destroy one Soviet submarine and sustain less than
forty percent losses to your force in the remaining two hours.

RED ORDERS: You are the commander of a Soviet Frontal Aviation
air group, and elements of Undersea Squadron 44 . Your mission
is to defend the Norwegian coastline from Tromso to the Nordkapp.

Two hours ago you received intelligence that a NATO frigate division
was sighted in Kvaenangen fjord, north of Tromso. NATO squadrons like
these have recently been screening amphibious landings. In two hours
a squadron of heavy bombers shall arrive to destroy any beachhead.

Your orders are to neutralize any NATO surface and air forces in your
sector, and maintain air superiority over the coastline. You have two
hours to do this.

INTELLIGENCE: NATO aviation units are probably defending the frigate
division. A squadron of F-15s and a squadron of F-16s are believed to
be operating out of Bodo, Norway. Air attack is your largest threat, both
to your strike aircraft and submarines. In addition, NATO submarines
may be accompanying the NATO frigates.

MINIMUM VICTORY: Destroy sixty percent of the NATO surface force. Do
not lose more than one submarine and fifty percent of your aircraft.
